Ever wonder why some resumes make it to the interview stage and others do not? Remember that your resume should be an attention grabber. A hiring authority should be able to get a feel for your strengths with just a glance at your resume. Sometimes the difference is very little between candidates being called in for an interview or going to the donut shop for the afternoon. Below is a sample of an effective resume structure. (Note: Simply cut and paste into your word processor, and then fill it in with your information. Text should be at least 11 point. Do not use fancy script or other fancy type. Block letters only. Resume Tips
Do not emphasize what a company can do for you. Emphasize what you can do for the company.
Do not include personal information such as age, weight, height, marital status, religious, or political affiliation.
Do not mention salary requirements as you may be too high or too low, and it may limit your opportunities.
Do not give half-truths or lies. It will come out eventually, and end in termination of your employment.
Do not exaggerate.
Do not be modest. You do not want to down play the things you are proud of.
Do not include things that you have done unless you are willing to do those things again.
Whenever possible, tailor your résumé for a particular position. Use the key words and phrases that are in a job description. It will make you look like you are the "perfect fit" for the position.
